About Me

Welcome! My name is Darrah Bryans (Darrah rhymes with Sarah), and I use she/her pronouns. I am looking forward to this search process and I’m excited for you to get to know me.

I came to Unitarian Universalism late in life when my spouse and I were searching for a spiritual home for our family. With two children under the age of four, we found ourselves longing for a community to help love and support us in modeling values of compassion, justice for all beings, and care for our world.

My spouse was an avowed atheist, while I was and still am someone who believes in the Divine. Unitarian Universalism offered a loving community that welcomed and accepted us both equally, regardless of our beliefs. I was delighted to find a faith community in which we could both fully and authentically participate.

My husband, Darryl, and I live in Natick with our son, Campbell, and dog, Percy. Our daughter, Connie, lives nearby in Medford. My children are the light of my life and my greatest joy.

What sparks joy in my life?

  • Spending time with my children, whenever, wherever, and however they want.
  • Taking long walks with Darryl and our dog, Percy.
  • Digging my hands into the dirt, as I nurture my garden into bloom.
  • Baking as a spiritual practice that feeds the bodies and souls of many friends and families.
  • A cup of tea, my book, and a comfy chair.

Fun fact about me: My first calling in life was to brewing. I spent two years in Germany learning the art and science of beer brewing. I earned my Brew Master and Malt Master certificates from the Handwerkskammer in Bayern.

When I returned to the U.S., I worked for Brew Moon Restaurant and Microbrewery in Harvard Square. Brewing for me was more than a job; it was a spiritual practice that engaged my body, mind, and spirit. Parenthood took me away from brewing, but being a brewer holds a special place in my heart.
